Functions of the skin.

The skin protects the body from injury and bacterial invasion.
The skin outermost layer is covered with thin layer of sebum, rendereing it waterproof.
It is resistant to different degrees of temperature, minor injuries, and any microbes.

Skin's absorbtion is limited, but it does occur.
Only certain substances applied in the skin can enter the body through the skin and influence the body to a minor degree.

Chinese Gazebo

Through skin's sensory nerve endings, skin responds to heat, cold, touch, and pain.
Extreme stimulation of a sensory nerve ending produce pain.

Sebum is secreted by the sebaceous glands.
Excessive flow of oil from the oil gland may produce seborrhea.
Emotional stress may increase the flow of sebum.
